Coherence (2)

In the previous unit we learned that using linking words and expressions can achieve coherence in a paragraph or passage. In this unit we will learn how to use additional sentences to provide links in our writing. The connective sentences are as important as the connective words which we learned before, without which the reader is left to infer the links, and may make the wrong inferences or simply be unable to make them. It is the task of the writer to ensure that the intended reader can follow the ideas or arguments presented in a text by making the links as clear as is necessary. Here, through doing the following exercises, we will learn how to use additional sentences to produce a coherent text in formal writing.
